My Sunflower for Beavers Badge

For Beavers recently I was asked to grow a sunflower for my Gardener Activity Badge.

When we planted the sunflower, it was just a seed in a small cup of dirt. At Day 3, it was still a cup of dirt.

Day 3

Nothing Happened

I kept watering the dirt, and on Day 6 something happened.

Day 6

Something happened

The sunflower seed grew out of the ground (it is called sprouting).  On Day 9 it grew bigger.

Day 9

It grew bigger

By day 12 the sunflower grew even bigger.

Day 12

It grew even bigger

I continued to water the sunflower until it grew too big for the small cup and it was time to move it to a larger pot.  I found a big pot, then we put stones in the bottom of the pot to make sure no soil comes out.  Then we put in some compost made with food scraps from our house and then we put in some regular dirt (compost).  I held the sunflower by the stem and pulled it gently and then it came out of the cup.  I made a small hole in the dirt in the new pot for the sunflower and pressed it down into the dirt.  We then watered the sunflower every day and my dad helped me connect it to our irrigation system.  An irrigation system is a way to automatically water plants.  The sunflower has gotten even larger.  Here is a recent photo:

My Sunflower

I took this photo because it is growing a little every day.

Today I noticed the flower began to grow and open on top.  Right now the flower is a brownish color.

Best Wishes Book

This is the book that I got on the last day of school and shows various pictures of me at my day care with my friends.  Unfortunately I got a chance to rip out some of the photos before my parents could scan it.

Pickin’ Apple Time

My big brother Korbin recently had a day off from school, so my mom and brother both got to come with me apple picking with my mom’s lab.  My brother got to climb up the ladder (my legs wouldn’t reach):

Driving my parents crazy

I’m only 5 months old now, but I figured I should start causing some problems at home.  First I make my parents panic with a little wheezing and coughing.  We got to go to the emergency room that night, where the person admitting to the emergency room wrote down that I was “whizzing”.  Well, duh!   I just smiled at the nice doctors and got sent home three hours later with a clean bill of health.

Then the following week we had to go back to the pediatrician since I wasn’t eating, still coughing, and not sleeping. I had fun on that visit too:

Doctor Visits are Fun!

The doctors were very nice and I did a lot of smiling.  I got sent home with a clean bill of health on this day too.  And then conveniently fell asleep in the stroller on the way home just to annoy my daddy.
