For Beavers recently I was asked to grow a sunflower for my Gardener Activity Badge.
When we planted the sunflower, it was just a seed in a small cup of dirt. At Day 3, it was still a cup of dirt.
I kept watering the dirt, and on Day 6 something happened.
The sunflower seed grew out of the ground (it is called sprouting). On Day 9 it grew bigger.
By day 12 the sunflower grew even bigger.
I continued to water the sunflower until it grew too big for the small cup and it was time to move it to a larger pot. I found a big pot, then we put stones in the bottom of the pot to make sure no soil comes out. Then we put in some compost made with food scraps from our house and then we put in some regular dirt (compost). I held the sunflower by the stem and pulled it gently and then it came out of the cup. I made a small hole in the dirt in the new pot for the sunflower and pressed it down into the dirt. We then watered the sunflower every day and my dad helped me connect it to our irrigation system. An irrigation system is a way to automatically water plants. The sunflower has gotten even larger. Here is a recent photo:
Today I noticed the flower began to grow and open on top. Right now the flower is a brownish color.
Well done Griffin! I really love your drawings and information. I’m so sorry I didn’t share it with the other Beavers on Friday. You have taken some good time and effort on this. You truly deserve your badge which you will receive on the last week. You should be really proud of yourself.
Super star!!
